FIVE - PENALTIES
Rule 503: Major Penalty
This part of rule 503 is Deleted:(
For his first major penalty, any player, other than the goalkeeper, will
be ruled off the ice for 5 minutes and no substitution shall be permitted)
For a (his second)
major penalty, any player, including the goalkeeper, will be ruled off the
ice for the balance of the game (game misconduct penalty) and substitution
shall be permitted after 5 minutes.
Rule 506: Gross Misconduct Penalty
This rule has been Deleted
Fouls Against Players for:
Rule 520: Boarding
Rule 522: Charging
Rule 524: Clipping
Rule 525: Cross Checking
Rule 526: Elbowing
Rule 530: High Sticking (However, if the high sticking
action that caused injury was judged accidental, the offending
player shall be assessed a double Minor Penalty (2+2))
Rule 536: Kneeing
Rule 537: Slashing
Rule :539 Tripping
The penalty options for all the above shall be;
A player, shall be assessed at the discretion of the Referee, a;
Minor Penalty (2 minutes)
OR
Major Penalty + Automatic Game Misconduct (5
minutes + Game)
OR
Match Penalty (Match)
A player who injures his opponent as a result of ........... shall be
assessed at the discretion of the Referee, a
Major Penalty + Automatic Game Misconduct Penalty
(5 Minutes + Game)
OR
Match Penalty (Match)
(The old rules for all of the above did not have the Match Penalty or
the Automatic Game Misconduct)

Rule 540: Checking to the Head and Neck
Area
The signal for this rule will be - the
open palm of the hand on the side of the head.
The penalty options for Rules 523
and 540 shall be;
A player who ...... shall be assessed, at
the discretion of the Referee, a;
Minor Penalty + Misconduct
Penalty (2+10 minutes)

Rule 533:Hooking
A player who impedes or seeks to impede the progress of an
opponent by hooking him with his stick shall be assessed a;

A player who injures an opponent by
hooking shall be assessed at the discretion of the Referee a;

OTHER PENALTIES
Rule 551: Abuse of Officials by Players
A player who challenges or disputes the ruling of any
Offical during the game shall be assessed a;

Misconduct Penalty (10

for a further dispute, he shall be assessed a;
Game Misconduct Penalty (Match)
Any player who intentionally touches with hands or stick,
holds or pushes or checks with hands, stick or body, trips, slashes or hits
in any manner, or spits at a game official
shall be assessed, (at the discretion of the Referee) a;

Rule 551: Abuse of Officials by Team Officials
If any team official:
- Uses obscene, profane or abusive language or
makes obscene gesture to any official, or
- interferes in any manner with any of the officials
of the game,
his team shall be assessed a;
Bench Minor Penalty (2 minutes)
If he persists he shall be
assessed a;
Game Misconduct Penalty (Game)
If any team official,
- holds or strikes an official,
- makes a travesty or is detrimental to the
conducting of the game, or
- spits at a game official,
he shall be assessed a;

Rule 552: Unsportsmanlike Conduct by Players
If a player makes a travesty of or interferes with or is
detrimental to the conducting of the game, or spits to
any person on the ice or anywhere in the rink, he shall be assessed
a;

Rule 553: Unsportsmanlike Conduct by Team Officials
If any team official,
- uses obscene, abusive language or
makes any obscene gesture to any person, or
- bangs the boards with a stick or other object at
any time,
his team shall be assessed a;
Bench Minor Penalty (2 minutes)
if any team official is guilty of any type of misconduct,
or continues behave in any manner in which he has previously assessed a
Bench Minor penalty, he shall be assessed a;
Game Misconduct Penalty
(The second team Bench Minor) is
Deleted
Rule 555: Illegal or Dangerous Equipment
For a second violation for any offence by any player of
the same team, the Referee shall assess a;

Rule 574: Changing the Starting Line-up
This rule has been Deleted
Rule 601: Women Body-Checking
The signal for this will now be - the palm of the right
hand placed in front of the left shoulder.
